AOPA Finland asked Trafi last week whether it intends to file an opt-out to EASA by 8th of April 2014 for a transitional period of licenses relating to third countries with regard to Cover Regulation, 1178/2011 and 290/2012, Article 8 Acceptance of 3rd country licenses.
As the deadline approached without any feedback from Trafi by 26th of March, AOPA Finland repetead the question. This time, we received a reply, stating that the matter is on urgent preparation in Trafi. Licence department has requested that the transitional period would be used to the full. The matter has been under discussion on Trafi Executive Committee on Thursday, 27th of March, but the decision has not yet been announced.
This issue is relevant to those pilot license holders flying an aircraft registered outside of EU member state. If the opt-out period is not filed by Trafi to EASA, for example, the N-registered aircraft cannot be operated with FAA pilot license subject after 8th of April 2014.
